‘Nihil Obstat’
Wood, cast plastic, chipboard, acrylic, mdf, plaster, ink
24”W x 14”H x 6”D
2016
Private Collection
This piece depicts a portion of a demolished 19thC building with its precious contents dangling into the open void of space. This piece is one of an ongoing series of ruminations upon a once glorious and functional past-which now is cast into ruin with a clear and painful reminder of its once intimate role. The title is a Latin phrase common in Roman Catholic usage meaning simply: ‘nothing hinders’ or nothing-objectionable remains’.
